In a significant development for Parkinson's disease research, Patanjali's scientists have published novel findings on their Ayurvedic formulation, Neurogrit Gold, in the prestigious international journal, CNS Neuroscience & Therapeutics, a Wiley publication. The study, conducted on C. elegans organisms, suggests that Neurogrit Gold not only aids in improving memory loss associated with Parkinson's disease but also extends lifespan, without negatively impacting the growth or progeny of the organisms.

Acharya Balkrishna, co-founder of Patanjali, highlighted the profound impact of Parkinson's disease, stating that it affects individuals mentally and significantly shrinks their social interactions. He expressed optimism about the potential for recovery and independent daily activities for those suffering from the condition, suggesting, "Yes, indeed, it is possible!"

He further elaborated that Neurogrit Gold represents a unique blend of ancient Ayurvedic wisdom and modern scientific analysis. "This research demonstrates that if natural herbs are analysed through a scientific lens, they can bring revolutionary solutions to modern-day health challenges," Acharya Balkrishna noted. Neurogrit Gold comprises natural herbs like Jyotishmati and Giloy, along with traditional Ayurvedic Bhasmas such as Ekangveer Ras, Moti Pishti, Rajat Bhasma, Vasant Kusumakar Ras, and Rasraj Ras, all traditionally recognized for their benefits in neurological disorders.

Dr Anurag Varshney, vice-President and chief scientist of Patanjali Research Foundation, emphasized the pioneering nature of the study, remarking, "this is the first time that a novel experiment has been conducted on C. elegans using an Ayurvedic formulation." He expressed excitement over the results, highlighting their promise for both the scientific community and future human health.

Dr Varshney explained that Parkinson's disease is characterized by the impaired function of dopamine, a critical neurotransmitter and hormone responsible for controlling bodily functions and movements. When dopamine synthesis is disrupted, it leads to tremors and cognitive impairments, even in simple tasks. The research indicated that Neurogrit Gold helped reduce oxidative stress levels in the C. elegans organisms. Furthermore, it enhanced the gene expression of pink-1 and pdr-1, genes crucial for mitochondrial autophagy, and cat-2, a gene responsible for dopamine synthesis.
