8th Pay Commission Latest News: In a major setback for the over 1 crore union government employees and pensioners, the finance ministry denied forming of 8th pay commission in the near future. Central government employees and pensioners have been demanding for a new pay commission to revise their pay scale as the 7th ay commission nears to complete 10 years tenure in 2026. The employees were anticipating that the government would form 8an th pay commission anytime around budget 2025, which is scheduled to be tabled in parliament in February, but the same does not seem to happen.
Pankaj Chaudhary, Minister of State in Finance Ministry, in a written reply to questions in Rajya Sabha, said that the government has no proposal to set up the 8th pay commission. Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Ramji Lal Suman and Javed Ali Khan asked if the government has any proposal or plan to make any announcement about the new pay commission in the union Budget 2025-26.

Major Disappointment For Central Government Employees
The Minister's reply will astonish as well as disappoint the nearly 50 lakh active central government employees and about 67 lakh pensioners, who were hoping that the Narendra Modi-led union government would bring some positive news for them in the upcoming budget.
The February budget was widely anticipated to include an announcement regarding the creation of the 8th Pay Commission, whose suggestions would take effect on January 1, 2026. Traditionally, the Centre has formed a new pay commission every ten years. If the 7th Pay Commission also follows the same timeframe, its term will end on December 31, 2025.
Even though the Finance Ministry has clarified that there is presently no proposal to establish a new pay commission, central government employees and retirees should not lose hope, since there is still time until the 7th Pay Commission concludes in December 2025.
