Delhi Election 2025: Delhi residents will head to polling stations for the Delhi Assembly elections on February 5, 2025. Voting is very important in any democracy, which allows people to participate in the electoral process, so various institutions observe holidays. Banks in Delhi will observe a holiday for the Delhi Assembly elections on Wednesday. As per the election guidelines, some corporations, banks and all government institutions will be closed for voting so that a maximum number of citizens can vote.
Bank Holiday on February 5: Banks remain closed for the Delhi elections
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has declared February 5 as a public holiday for banks operating in Delhi to facilitate the voting rights of employees. In addition to the polling day holidays, banks will be closed on February 3, 11, 12, 15, 19, 20, 26, and 28, along with all bank holidays in February, Sundays, and the second and fourth Saturdays. This will add up to 14 days.
What else will be closed for the February 5 holidays?
- Government offices, schools, colleges, etc. will be closed, and many government institutions will function as polling stations.
- Cinema halls and theatres will also be closed during the voting period to encourage voter participation.
What will remain open?
Public transport:
Delhi Metro and DTC Bus: It will run every 30 minutes from 4:00 AM to 6:00 AM when normal operations resume, DTC buses have added 35 routes from 4:00 AM to facilitate easy access to polling stations.
Essential services: Hospitals, pharmacies and emergency services will remain operational.
Retail and commercial businesses: Most shops, restaurants, grocery stores and eateries are likely to remain open.
Banks to remain closed in February
As per the Negotiable Instruments Act, the Reserve Bank of India has declared the following dates as bank holidays. February 3, 11, 12, 15, 19, 20, 26, and 28
In addition, banks will observe a total of 14 days of holidays, including the second and fourth Saturdays in February, which fall on Sundays. The people of Delhi should make the most of the facilities available to them to play a significant role in the 2025 Assembly elections.
