New Medical Colleges: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman while presenting the Interim Budget on Thursday said that the Centre government is planning to set up more medical colleges across the country. The Finance Minister stated that the government aims to achieve these goals by utilising the existing hospital infrastructure.
FM Sitharaman while presenting the interim budget in the Parliament said the Centre will establish a committee to examine the issues and make recommendations on how this project can be implemented with ease in an effort to increase government-run medical colleges in the state.
"Several youths are ambitious to get qualified as doctors. They aim to serve our people through improved healthcare services. Our government plans to set up more medical colleges by utilising the existing hospital infrastructure under various departments. A committee for this purpose will be set up to examine the issues and make relevant recommendations," the Finance Minister said.

The announcement came amid high demand for setting up medical colleges in various regions of the country, where students struggle to get good and affordable colleges even after struggling and achieving good marks in entrance exams like NEET.

FM Nirmala Sitharaman also announced that the government will encourage vaccination for girls in the 9 to 14 years age group for prevention of cervical cancer. She also stated that the government will bring multiple schemes for maternal child care. The newly designed U-WIN platform for managing immunisation and intensified efforts of the Mission Indradhanush will be rolled out expeditiously throughout the country, Sitharaman added.
"Upgradation of anganwadi centres under Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 will be expedited for improved nutrition delivery, early childhood care and development. The healthcare cover under the Ayushman Bharat will be extended to all ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers and helpers," the finance minister said.
