Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting the Interim Budget, announced the government will launch a housing scheme for deserving middle-class people so that they could own their own house. She said the government was close to achieving the target of three crore houses under the rural housing scheme and has set a target of constructing two crore more houses in the next five years.
PM Modi recently released the first instalment of Rs 540 crore to one lakh beneficiaries of a rural housing scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) via video conferencing.

The Finance Minister said the government will launch a rooftop solarisation program which would ensure one crore households get free electricity of up to 300 units per month.
The 2024 interim budget presentation brought forth a slew of transformative initiatives aimed at bolstering various sectors of the economy and addressing pressing societal challenges.
As per tradition, Sitharaman reached the Parliament with the budget tablet after meeting President Droupadi Murmu in Rashtrapati Bhavan.
In the past three years, a new tradition has been set, where the finance minister carries budget documents in electronic form.

She sought the consent of the Union Cabinet, which approved the interim budget. Sitharaman presented her sixth straight budget today.
