Budget 2026: This year’s budget includes several major announcements for farmers. The government has given special emphasis to the agricultural sector and has introduced multiple schemes aimed at improving farmers’ livelihoods and overall progress.
'Bharat-VISTAAR' - AI Tool For Farmers
Launch of Bharat-VISTAAR (Virtually Integrated System to Access Agricultural Resources) - a multilingual Al tool for farmers. This multilingual Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool will integrate the AgriStack portals and the ICAR package on agricultural practices with Al systems. It will enhance farm productivity, enable better decisions for farmers and reduce risk by providing customised advisory support.
Focus On Expensive Crops
The government has placed special emphasis on high-value crops in this budget. To increase crop production and generate higher revenues, the government will support high-value crops such as cashews, walnuts, coconuts, sandalwood, and other crops. Additionally, the government has designated cashews as a premium brand. This will also boost exports.
Promotion Of Agriculture In Hilly Areas
Cultivation of crops such as walnuts, almonds, and apricots in hilly areas will be encouraged, along with schemes designed to alleviate difficulties caused by geographical conditions.
Emphasis Given on Sandalwood Cultivation
During the budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that the central and state governments will work together to focus on sandalwood cultivation and post-harvest processing, so that sandalwood can be promoted as much as possible.
The government will try to ensure that the growing demand and expensive crops like sandalwood can once again become the identity of India.
Promotion Of Employment In Animal Husbandry
Special focus has been placed on the animal husbandry sector in rural and peri-urban areas. The government will focus specifically on startups in the animal husbandry sector to increase employment.
FPOs (Farmer Producer Organisation) Will Be Encouraged
There will be an increase in the production chain (production, distribution and sales) of livestock, dairy and poultry. Apart from this, loan related subsidies will be promoted.
