Umang Vohra To Exit By March 2026: Cipla Limited, a multinational pharmaceutical company headquartered in Mumbai, will see its CEO, Umang Vohra, exit by March 2026. According to media reports, Cipla's current Global COO Achin Gupta is likely to take over as the next Global CEO.
A report from the Economic Times stated that Cipla's Managing Director and Global Chief Executive Officer, Umang Vohra, will step down from his role by the end of March 2026. Vohra has led the Indian pharmaceutical giant since he took over in September 2016, expanding the company's presence in global generics, respiratory products, and complex therapies.
The company has not formally confirmed its transition plan, but many sources have claimed a succession plan is underway and that its Global Chief Operating Officer, Achin Gupta, will emerge as the company's next CEO.

Umang Vohra: A Look At His Career
Umang Vohra, 54, joined Cipla in 2015, as Global Chief Financial Officer before becoming Chief Operating Officer. A year later, Vohra was elevated to MD and Global CEO. During this period, he sharpened the company's international focus, increased its US market penetration, and sustained investment in research and development.
Vohra's tenure came at a time when the generics industry was filled with regulatory and pricing pressures globally. Yet, Cipla retained its position as one of India's largest pharmaceutical firms by revenue, with a strong presence in respiratory and antiretroviral drugs.
Under his leadership, Cipla expanded into North America and Africa while also investing in biosimilars and specialty drugs.
Vohra had also played senior roles at Eicher Motors and PepsiCo, where he built a reputation for financial discipline and strategic agility.
Achin Gupta: Next Global CEO Of Cipla
Achin Gupta, Cipla's current Global COO, is seen internally as the frontrunner to replace Vohra. Gupta oversees the company's global operations and commercial strategies, and industry analysts view him as a well-positioned candidate to lead the company's long-term growth. As of now, it remains unclear whether Vohra will remain with Cipla as an advisor or in another non-operational capacity.

Investors will be watching for a formal confirmation from Cipla's board, as well as clarity on the succession plan, to assess the impact on its strategy and governance in the future.
