National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) said on Monday that FASTags with valid balances but incomplete KYC will be deactivated by banks after January 31, 2024.

To improve the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system and provide smooth traffic at the toll plazas, NHAI has launched the 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' initiative, which aims to discourage the use of one FASTag for multiple vehicles, the authority said in a statement.

Complete FASTag KYC as per RBI's Guideline

NHAI encourages FASTag users to complete the 'Know Your Customer' (KYC) process of their latest FASTag by updating KYC as per RBI guidelines.

To avoid inconvenience, users should ensure that the KYC of their latest FASTag is completed, the statement said.

One vehicle one FAStag

It said that FASTag users should follow 'one vehicle, one FASTag' and cancel all FASTags previously issued by their banks.

After January 31, 2024, only the latest FASTag account will remain active as previous tags will be deactivated/blacklisted, NHAI said.

For further assistance or queries, FASTag users can contact the nearest toll plaza or the toll-free customer care number of the respective issuing banks.

NHAI takes the initiative

NHAI has taken this initiative following reports of multiple FASTags being issued to a particular vehicle recently and FASTags being issued without KYC in violation of the RBI order, the statement said.

Further, FASTags are sometimes deliberately not pasted on the windows of vehicles, causing unnecessary delays at toll booths and inconveniencing fellow national highway commuters.

FASTag has revolutionized the electronic toll collection system in the country With a penetration rate of around 98 per cent and over 8 crore users.

The 'One Vehicle, One Fastac' initiative will help make customs operations more efficient and ensure smooth and convenient journeys, the statement said.
