The American automaker Ford declared on Friday that it was prepared to make vehicles for export utilizing its Chennai manufacturing plant and had educated the Tamil Nadu government about the same. The company, which had said that it would stop making vehicles in India by 2021, has submitted a letter of purpose (LOI) to the Tamil Nadu government confirming its plan to utilize the Chennai plant for manufacturing for exports.

The declaration comes after a gathering between Ford's administration and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin as a feature of its visit to the US, Ford said in an announcement. Ford said the strategic move would see the office repurposed to zero in on the creation for fare to worldwide markets as a feature of the organization's ambitious 'Ford+ Development Plan'.

"This step aims to underscore our ongoing commitment to India as we intend to leverage the manufacturing expertise available in Tamil Nadu to serve new global markets," Ford International Markets Group President Kay Hart said.

It said, be that as it may, that more data about the creation mode and different subtleties would be delivered in due course.

Ford said their most recent declaration affirms the organization's responsibility to India as an essential market for its worldwide tasks. The organization at present employs 12,000 people in its worldwide business tasks in Tamil Nadu, a number expected to develop from 2,500 to 3,000 positions throughout the following three years.

In September 2021, after nearly three decades of battling to make a name for itself in India, Ford Motor Company declared that it would stop producing vehicles at its two plants in the nation and sell just imported vehicles going ahead, as a feature of a restructuring exercise.

"Combined with the engine manufacturing operations in Sanand, India represents Ford's second-largest salaried workforce worldwide," the company said.

While it sold its vehicle manufacturing plant at Sanand in Gujarat to Tata Motors, it neglected to stop producing vehicles and motors in Chennai by the second-quarter 2022 objective cutoff time.
