Google Layoffs: Global technology giant 'Google' has announced a major restructuring plan, which may lead to the layoffs of several employees. As per media reports, the company's chief financial officer, 'Ruth Porat' sent out an internal memo to the employees about Google's plans.
The technology sector is going through a vast platform change with AI. As a company, this means we have the opportunity to create more useful products for billions of users and provide faster solutions to our customers, however, it also means we have to make difficult decisions together on how and where we need to align with our top priority areas, Ruth Porat wrote in the memo, according to reports.

The memo further said that it is sad to bid farewell to some talented teammates and friends who we care for, and we know that this change can be challenging. The move comes after Google CEO Sundar Pichai warned about the possibility of further layoffs in 2024.
According to the report, the restructuring will affect teams in Asia Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East.
It added that Google plans to set up more centralized offices in Bengaluru, Dublin, Mexico City, Atlanta, and Chicago. Companies like Tesla, Apple, and Amazon implemented restructuring plans in 2022 and 2021 which led to thousands of layoffs across the globe. Reports suggest that around 58,000 tech workers have been laid off so far in 2024.
In another report, a Google spokesperson, as reported by Reuters, said the layoffs do not affect the entire company and that affected employees will be able to apply for internal positions, but did not specify the number of employees affected or the teams involved. A small percentage of the affected positions will move to centers where the company is investing, including India, Chicago, Atlanta, and Dublin.
The layoffs follow a series of job cuts at Google and across the technology and media industry this year, raising concerns that layoffs could continue as companies grapple with economic uncertainty.
