Ratan Tata Birthday: Tata Sons chairman 'Ratan Tata' is celebrating his 86th birthday on Thursday (December 28). According to the 360 ONE Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2023, He is the most followed Indian businessman with over 12 million followers on X (formerly Twitter). Ratan Tata not only has a social media following but he is being loved by millions of Indians across the world as well.
Ratan Tata's Early Life
Ratan Tata was on this date in 1937 in Mumbai to Naval Tata and Soni Tata. He did his early schooling in Mumbai. Ratan attended Gambian School till 8th standard and then went to Cathedral and John Cannon School in Mumbai. He attended Bishop Cotton School in Shimla before moving abroad for higher studies. Ratan Tata went to Cornell University to study architecture, He returned to India in 1962. In the same year, he joined Tata Group and worked at Tata Steel Division in Jamshedpur. Later, in 1975, he completed his management studies at Harvard Business School. In 1991, he took over as the chairman of the Tata Group.

- He is the great-grandson of Jamsetji Tata, the founder of the Tata Group. His parents separated in 1948 when he was ten years old, so he was brought up by his grandmother Nawabhai Tata.
- Ratan Tata is unmarried. It is noted that he came close to getting married four times but could not get married due to various reasons.
- Ratan Tata took TCS public in 2004. Under his leadership, the Tata Group gained global attention after the historic mergers of Anglo-Dutch steelmaker Corus, British automaker Jaguar Land Rover and British tea company Deadly.
- In 2009, he promised to make an affordable car that India's middle class could afford. He fulfilled his promise and launched the Tata Nano for Rs 1 lakh.
- He is a great philanthropist. In 2010, the Tata Group donated $50 million to build an executive centre at Harvard Business School (HBS), where he received his undergraduate training, named Tata Hall.
- In 2014, the Tata Group donated ₹95 crore to IIT-Bombay and created the Tata Center for Technology and Design (TCTD) to develop design and engineering principles tailored to the needs of people and communities with limited resources.

Ratan Tata has a net worth of ₹3,800 crore and is ranked 421st in IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2022. Before that, he was ranked 433rd and had a net worth of ₹3,500 crore in 2021. A major reason behind this is that companies under the holding company of Tata Sons contribute 66% of the total income of the Tata Trusts to charities.
