Ration Card is generally issued by state governments and is as an official document to get food grains at subsidised rates through the Public Distribution System (PDS), under the National Food Security. 

It can also be used as an ID proof to make birth certificates, Voter ID cards among other important documents. Well, if you still don’t have your ration card, then you can still apply for it online from the comfort of your home.

Before applying for your Ration Card, you must know that there are two types of ration cards — one issued to below poverty line (BPL) people and second for people above BPL.

List of documents you need — an identity proof (election id, driving license, passport, any other government id), a residence proof (electricity bill, telephone bill, bank passbook), a family picture, applicant’s annual income proof, any canceled or surrendered ration card (if any).

Who can apply for a ration card?

  1. An Indian citizen

  2. Should have a ration card of any other state/UT

  3. Must be aged above 18 years

  4. Minor/children below 18 years of age can be included in their parent’s ration card

How to apply for a Ration Card online?

  1. First login into your respective state/UT food portals via Nfsa.gov.in

  2. Then click on ‘apply for services’ on the left side of your screen.

  3. Click on the option ‘Issuance of new ration card’.

  4. Next, fill out all the required details asked in the application form.

  5. Attach the scanned copy of required documents as proof.

  6. After filling out the application form and uploading documents, click on ‘Submit’ button.

  7. Once done, you can track the status of your application online on the website.
