UPI In Mauritius And Sri Lanka:  A week after the launch of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in France, Sri Lanka and Mauritius are the latest countries to accept India's digital payment system.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnath and Ranil Wickremesinghe, President of Sri Lanka, graced the inaugural function. RuPay cards have also been introduced in Mauritius today.

Given India's strong cultural and people-to-people ties with Sri Lanka and Mauritius, this launch will benefit many people through a fast and seamless digital transaction experience and improve digital connectivity between the countries, the government said.

Indians visiting both countries can use UPI to make payments. Mauritians travelling to India can also use the payment service in India. The expansion of RuPay services will enable banks in Mauritius to issue RuPay cards and use them to make payments in both India and Mauritius.

India has been a leader in emerging fintech innovation and digital public infrastructure. The Prime Minister emphasise sharing our growth experiences and innovations with partner nations, the government said.

UPI was launched in France

UPI was launched at the Eiffel Tower in Paris during the Republic Day reception on February 2, as a part of the government's "vision to take UPI global".

UPI, a mobile-based payment system developed by India, that enables round-the-clock payments through a virtual payment address. It powers multiple bank accounts in a single app and brings multiple banking features under one hood.
