ITR Filing: With technology being upgraded at an exponentially faster pace, the government is now able to process tax refunds swiftly. Some taxpayers have even reported getting their money back in a matter of a few hours of filing taxes. This has been a huge improvement from the past delays, given that the new e-filing portal comes with stricter checks to prevent fake claims.
However, some taxpayers may have been experiencing delays in receiving their income tax refunds for the fiscal year 2025-26. For those facing delays in their income tax refund, here is a step-by-step guide on how you can check your ITR refund status:
This ITR refund amount is usually transferred within 4 to 5 weeks of the submission of e-verification. To claim the refund, it is important to pre-validate your bank account with a unique identifier like a PAN card to ensure secure financial transactions, such as receiving an income tax refund.

How To Check ITR Refund Status Through Income Tax Portal
Step 1: Visit the income tax portal at incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal, and log in to your account.
Step 2: Click on "e-File," then find the "Income Tax Returns" option and click on it. Finally, select "View Filed Returns."
Step 3: Here, you can view the current and previous status of your tax returns.
Step 4: Click on "View Details," and you will be able to see the status of your income tax refund.
How To Check ITR Refund Status Through NSDL Portal
If you want to access your refund status through the NSDL portal, here are the steps listed below:
Step 1: Visit the NSDL Portal at tin.tin.nsdl.com/oltas/refund-status-pan.html
Step 2: Enter your PAN information, pick the assessment year from the drop-down menu for which you are requesting a tax refund, and enter the captcha code.
Step 3: Select "Proceed" from the "Taxpayer Refund (PAN)" menu. Once this is confirmed, you will be taken to a page called "Refund Status," where you can find all the information related to your refund query.
The last date to file an ITR for the fiscal year 2024-25, for non-audit cases, has been extended from July 31 to September 15, 2025. Remember, missing the ITR deadline for FY 2024-25 can lead to penalties of up to Rs 5,000, interest on any unpaid tax, the inability to carry forward certain losses.
