New GST Rate Benefits Denied: The Union government on Monday launched GST 2.0, a nationwide tax reform that simplifies the GST structure into two main slabs of 5 per cent and 18 per cent. As the new GST rates came into effect, many goods and services that were previously expensive have now become cheaper and more affordable. These GST reforms have been implemented across every state and union territory of India.
The government is closely monitoring the implementation of new GST rates to ensure compliance. Under the new rules, the government can take strict action against any company that fails to pass on the benefits of revised GST rates to its customers.
The Central Government is monitoring the new rates through the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA). The CCPA can conduct investigations into violations of consumer rights and unfair trade practices, either based on complaints or by taking suo motu cognizance of such matters. The act establishing the CCPA empowers the central authority to protect consumer rights and prevent their violation.

What is the CCPA?
The CCPA was established under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, and has been in force since July 24, 2020. Its purpose is to protect consumer rights and monitor for violations.
Its mandate is "to protect, promote, and enforce the rights of consumers, and to prevent the violation of consumer rights under this Act." Moreover, the act aims to prevent unfair trade practices and ensure that no one engages in them.
The law also addresses misleading advertisements, stipulating that all ads must be honest, not make false promises, and adhere to the specific rules of the Consumer Protection Act.
