UPI In UAE:  Prime Minister Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan launched the UPI and RuPay card service in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. Following the development, UAE becomes the 7th country to accept India's UPI payment service after Nepal, Singapore, France, Mauritius, and Sri Lanka.

The move will offer seamless cross-border transactions between the two nations. The development follows the MoU on Interlinking Payment and Messaging Systems signed during the Prime Minister's visit to Abu Dhabi in July last year. Recently, India introduced its UPI and Rupay card services in Sri Lanka and Mauritius on February 12.

Prime Minister Modi landed in UAE on a two-day visit. He was welcomed by President Nahyan. The Prime Minister who reached the country was given a guard of honour. Later he was formally welcomed at Kasar Al Watan, Preidential Palace. Subsequently, the leaders would hold meetings to take forward the bilateral strategic partnership. This is the seventh visit of the Prime Minister to the UAE since 2015.

In meeting the UAE President, PM Narendra Modi said thanked the UAE president for warm welcome that he received. the PM said that whenever he went to meet the UAE president, he always felt like meeting his family.

We have met 5 times in the past 7 months, which is rare and reflects our close relationship, said PM Modi. He also said that he would address members of the Indian community living in UAE at a special event in Abu Dhabi.

Discussions between the two leaders will focus on enhancing cooperation in the areas of energy, ports, fintech, digital infrastructure, railways and investment flows.
