Benchmark stock indexes climbed in early trading on Thursday, but they faced highly volatile trends and traded flat quickly due to the lack of any immediate catalysts to move the market. The 30-share BSE Sensex gained 250.72 points to 77,588.31 in early trade. The NSE Nifty increased by 71.7 points to 23,587.70. However, both benchmark indices experienced extreme volatility and were trading between highs and lows.

Among the Sensex basket, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Tata Motors, Ultratech Cement, HDFC Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Reliance Industries were the top gainers. Power Grid, Bajaj Finserv,  Sun Pharma, and Bajaj Finance were among the losers.

In Asian markets, Seoul was trading in the green zone, while Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong prices fell. U.S. markets were closed on Wednesday in observance of Juneteenth. According to stock exchange data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) purchased equities worth Rs 7,908.36 crore on Wednesday. Brent crude oil, the global oil standard, increased by 0.64 percent to US$85.07 per barrel.

The Bahrain Stock Exchange index climbed for the fifth consecutive session on Wednesday, 36.45 points, or 0.05 percent, to settle at a new high closing level of 77,337.59. During the day trade, it surged over 550.49 points, or 0.71 percent, to reach a new peak of 77,851.63 points. The Nifty index closed at 23,516, down 41.90 points, or 0.18 percent. During the day, it increased by 106.1 points, or 0.45 percent, to reach a new all-time high of 23,664.
