Stock Market Closing:  The benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty wiped out the early gains and fell sharply on a broad basis in the afternoon in the trading hours on March 13.

The Sensex ended the trading at 72,685. down by 1.23 per cent or 906.07 points on March 13 While the Nifty 50 closed at 21,997.70, down by 1.51 per cent or 338 points.

Power grid was the biggest loser in the Sensex pack, falling over 7 per cent, while NTPC, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, JSW Steel, Bharti Airtel, Titan, Reliance Industries and Hindustan Unilever continued to fall.

Meanwhile, the stocks of ITC, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Nestle, Bajaj Finance and HDFC Bank were the gainers.
In the broader market, the BSE smallcap gauge fell 5.11 per cent, while the midcap index tanked 4.20 per cent.

Seoul settled in the green in Asian markets, while Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong declined. European markets traded mostly in the green. U.S. markets ended significantly higher on Tuesday.
