Stock Market Holiday On May 1: The stock market will remain closed on Wednesday, the first day of May, for the occasion of Maharashtra Day. In addition to weekends, the stock market will remain closed for two more days this month. On May 20th, the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange will be closed because voting for the fifth phase of Loksabha seats is scheduled for this date in Mumbai.
Operations of derivatives, equity, SLB, currency derivatives, and interest rate derivatives will also be closed on May 20th. Following the holiday on May 1 for Maharashtra Day, regular trading will resume on May 2nd on the National Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange.
Voting will be held on all six Lok Sabha seats in Mumbai on May 20th, in addition to seven other seats in Maharashtra. The head offices of both the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange are located in Mumbai, thus making May 20th a holiday for voting.
Stock Market Holidays in 2024
In 2024, the stock markets in the National Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange will be closed for a total of 16 days excluding weekends. On May 1st, the stock market will be closed for Maharashtra Day, while on May 20th, the stock market will be closed due to Lok Sabha elections in Mumbai. Next month, on June 17th, there will be a holiday for Bakrid and on July 17th, stock markets will be closed for the occasion of Moharram. The stock markets will be closed on Independence Day on August 15th, Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti on October 2nd, Diwali on November 1st, Guru Nanak Jayanti on November 15th, and Christmas on December 25th.
