Stock Market: The BSE benchmark Sensex and the Nifty 50 Index opened on a positive note on Thursday, with buying seen in stocks like HDFC Bank and State Bank of India. The Sensex rose 95 points to 80,329.08 in early trade. The Nifty climbed 48.15 points to 24,323.05. In the 30-share Sensex pack, State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, Adani Ports, ITC, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Motors, IndusInd Bank, and Tata Steel were among the gainers.
Tech Mahindra, HCL Technologies, Tata Consultancy, Infosys, Mahindra & Mahindra Services, and Power Grid were among the losers.
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) purchased shares worth Rs 7.78 crore on Wednesday, according to exchange data. In Asian markets, Seoul and Tokyo were trading higher, while Shanghai and Hong Kong were trading lower.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude fell 0.21% to $72.68 a barrel. On Wednesday, the BSE benchmark closed 230.02 points, or 0.29%, higher at 80,234.08. The Nifty rose 80.40 points, or 0.33%, to 24,274.90.
The rupee fell 7 paise to 84.47 in early trade on Thursday on account of a weak trend in domestic equity markets and the strength of the US currency in overseas markets. The rupee opened at 84.45 at the interbank foreign exchange market and moved in a narrow range to reach 84.47, displaying a decline of 7 paise from its previous close. On Wednesday, the rupee closed 11 paise lower at 84.40.
Meanwhile, the dollar index, which measures the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading 0.14% higher at 106.22.
