Stock Market Today: Domestic equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty opened higher on Wednesday, led by acquisitions by index heavyweights Infosys and HDFC Bank amid a mixed trend in global markets. The 30-share BSE index Sensex was trading 366.49 points, or 0.48 per cent, higher at 76,204.85. Similarly, the broader NSE index Nifty rose 80.60 points, or 0.35 per cent, to 23,105.25.

Among 30 shares of Sensex, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Sun Pharmaceutical, ICICI Bank, ITC, Tech Mahindra,  Titan, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, and Bajaj Finance were the top gainers. Meanwhile, Zomato, PowerGrid, Tata Motors, State Bank of India,   IndusInd Bank, Tata Steel and Adani Ports were trading in red. 

In Asian markets, Tokyo and Seoul were trading in gain, while Shanghai and Hong Kong were trading in loss.

International oil benchmark Brent crude was trading 0.06 per cent higher at $79.34 per barrel. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 5,920.28 crore on Tuesday.

The BSE Sensex fell 1,235.08 points to close at 75,838.36 and the NSE Nifty fell 320.10 points to 23,024.65 on Tuesday.

The rupee witnessed heavy volatility in early trade on Wednesday as global uncertainties undermined positive domestic equity market support and investors turned cautious.

The rupee opened at 86.56 at the interbank foreign exchange market and fell to a low of 86.71 against the dollar in a highly volatile morning session. On Tuesday, the rupee fell 13 paise to 86.58 against the US dollar.
