Swiggy Platform Fee Hike: Food delivery giant Swiggy has once again increased its platform fee for food delivery orders, hiking it by Rs 2 to Rs 14. The company cited a surge in customer transactions during the festive season as the reason for the hike. Swiggy first introduced a platform fee of Rs 2 in April 2023, becoming the first player in the sector to do so.

Since then, it has steadily raised the charge to Rs 6 in July 2024, Rs 10 in October 2024, and now Rs 14, marking a staggering 600 per cent jump in just over two years. The company processes over 2 million orders daily. At the current platform fee, this translates to additional income running into crores of rupees every day.
Swiggy reported a net loss of Rs 1,197 crore for the June quarter (Q1 FY26), almost double the Rs 611 crore loss in the same period last year (Q1 FY25). On a quarter-on-quarter basis, losses widened from Rs 1,081 crore in the March quarter (Q4 FY25), largely due to higher expenses in its quick commerce arm, Instamart.

Like its rival Zomato, which has also implemented five platform fee hikes in under two years, a 400 per cent increase, Swiggy has tested higher fees on high-demand days and retained them when order volumes remained unaffected.
Restaurant owners have long complained that commission rates of up to 35 per cent on these platforms force them to inflate menu prices, making online orders over 50 per cent costlier than dining in. Both companies continue to face criticism for failing to improve delivery workers’ conditions despite repeated fee hikes.
