Tax Audit Due Date: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Thursday announced that the government has extended the deadline for filing various audit reports for the financial year 2024-25 from September 30 to October 31. The extension of the deadline was decided after the CBDT received requests from several professional associations, including chartered accountant bodies, citing “certain difficulties” faced by taxpayers and practitioners in completing audit reports on time.

“The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has decided to extend the specified date for filing various audit reports for the Previous Year 2024–25 (Assessment Year 2025–26), from 30th September 2025 to 31st October 2025,” the Income Tax Department wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

In view of the representations made by tax practitioners before the Hon’ble Courts, the deadline for submitting tax audit reports (TARs) under any provision of the Income-tax Act, 1961, for the Previous Year 2024-25 (Assessment Year 2025-26) was extended to October 31, earlier than the September 30 deadline.

“The reasons cited in these representations include disruptions caused by floods and natural calamities in certain parts of the country, which have impeded normal business and professional activity. This matter has also come up before High Courts,” the circular read.

The CBDT statement followed a directive from a bench of Justices PS Bhati and Bipin Gupta of the Rajasthan High Court’s Jodhpur bench, which ordered the extension of the deadline for filing of tax audit reports to October 31 and called for an official notification on the extension.

It further stated that the Income-tax e-filing portal has been functioning smoothly without any technical issues, and tax audit reports are being uploaded successfully.
