The passenger car market in India displayed conflicting patterns in April. While Hyundai Motor India saw a drop in sales, Toyota Kirloskar Motor and JSW MG Motor India reported robust double-digit growth in dispatches. Even though market momentum seems to be mixed overall, the numbers show that premium models and electric vehicles are becoming more and more popular.
Toyota Sales Increase 33% Year Over Year
In April 2025, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) saw a strong 33% year-over-year increase in sales, selling 27,324 units as opposed to 20,494 units the previous year. Exports accounted for 2,491 units, while domestic dispatches contributed 24,833 units. The increase suggests that the automaker's updated SUV and MPV lineup is still in high demand.
Despite export gains, Hyundai experiences a decline
Total sales for Hyundai Motor India fell 5% to 60,774 units in April compared to 63,701 units in the same month the previous year. Domestic sales decreased from 50,201 units in April 2024 to 44,374 units. Nonetheless, exports, which increased from 13,500 to 16,400 units, offered some respite.

MG Motor Experiences 23% Growth on the EV Wave
JSW MG Motor India maintained its upward trend, selling 5,829 units in April compared to 4,725 units the previous year, a 23% YoY increase. Strong consumer response to its electric products, especially the MG Windsor EV, which held the top spot for the seventh consecutive month, was credited by the automaker with the growth.
