Zomato Tax Notice: Zomato, India's leading online food aggregator said that it has received a notice demanding service tax and penalty of more than Rs 184 crore. The company has decided to challenge the order before the appropriate authority, said the company. 

In a stock filing on Monday, Zomato said that it received an order for non-payment of service tax between October 2014 and June 2017. This has been determined based on some sales of the company's foreign subsidiary units and branches to its customers outside the country. On Tuesday, there was a slight decline in the shares of Zomato and it ended at 183.10 on NSE.

Zomato also said that in its response to the show cause notice, it had provided clarification on the allegations along with necessary documents and earlier court orders in this regard. According to the company, it seems that the officials did not consider this while passing the order. Zomato said that it has received the order of the Delhi Central Tax Commissioner passed on April 1.

The company has received orders from the Delhi Central Tax Commissioner (Adjudication) for the period October 2014 to June 2017. In this, a demand of Rs 92,09,90,306 has been made as service tax. Also, a demand of Rs 92,09,90,306 crore has been made as interest and penalty. According to the company, it believes that the case is not made out on merits. Therefore, Zomato will file an appeal against the order before the appropriate authority in this regard, said Zomato.
