WPL Auction 2025: Uncapped Indian youngster Simran Shaikh was bought by the Gujarat Giants at the WPL 2025 auction on Sunday. She had made her WPL debut while playing for the UP Warriors during the first season.
It should be noted here that Gujarat Giants bought her for a whopping amount of Rs 1.9 crore after being involved in an intense bidding war.
Simran Shaikh returns to Gujarat Giants
The Mumbai women's cricketer Simran Shaikh would be playing for the Gujarat Giants in the next season of the WPL. She made her tournament debut in the first edition while playing for UP Warriorz but the franchise had to let her go.
Shaikh entered her name at the WPL 2025 auction and was bought by Gujarat Giants for a whopping amount of Rs 1.90 crore and even pipped her Gujarat Giants teammate and legendary West Indies cricketer Deandra Dottin.
During the first edition of the WPL, Simran Shaikh had represented UP Warriorz in all nine matches and also in their heart-breaking loss to Mumbai Indians women during the Eliminator. Although she was part of the playing XI regularly, she failed to repay the faith of the team management as she scored just 29 runs after playing in seven matches and at a poor batting average of 5.80.
She batted against 48 balls and played at a poor strike rate of 60.41. She would now represent Gujarat Giants in the next edition and it would be interesting to see how she would perform.
