India opener Abhishek Sharma on Wednesday with his fearlessness and explosive batting slammed India's second-fastest fifty (in terms of balls) against England in the T20I at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
During India's first T20I game of the five-match series against England, Abhishek played a riveting 79-run innings at Eden Gardens, the second-fastest (in 20 balls) by any Indian batter against England.
With this half-century, Abhishek joined his mentor Yuvraj Singh in the elite list, who had smashed a fifty in just 12 balls in the 2007 T20 World Cup.
The love affair between English bowlers and Indian left-hander batters in cricket's shortest format has gained popularity thanks to former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh's dream run during the 2007 T20 World Cup.
It is engraved in everyone's memories when Yuvraj clobbered six sixes against England pacer Stuart Broad and slammed the fastest fifty in the T20I format — a record that stood for a very long time.
Meanwhile, in Eden Gardens on Wednesday, out of Abhishek's 79 runs, 68 came in the form of boundaries. With his repertoire of shots, he reeled away five fours and a whopping eight maximums while striking at 232.35.
He certainly had luck on his side after being dropped twice in the game. He unleashed a flurry of boundaries during his swashbuckling performance and brought up his fifty in style with a dazzling six.
