Asia Cup 2025 Points Table: Sri Lanka has reached the Super Four stage of the ongoing tournament, along with Bangladesh, as they beat Afghanistan during the 11th match. They had won the match by six wickets in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.
Afghanistan didn't have a great start in the must-win clash. The openers Rahamanullah Gurbaz and Sediullah Atal started well as they had stitched a partnership of 26 runs for the first wicket.
But they fell cheaply, and so did Karim Janat, who was pushed up in the batting order. Ibrahim Zadran scored a gritty knock of 24 runs and held the innings from one end, but the Sri Lankan bowlers took wickets at regular intervals and left Afghanistan tottering at 114/7. But then Mohammad Nabi helped the team bounce back as he scored a brilliant knock of 60 runs, which also included five sixes in the last over.

Captain Rashid Khan too scored a gritty knock of 24 runs and thus posted a respectable target of 169 runs. Sri Lanka's Nuwan Thusara was the pick among the bowlers as he took four wickets.
While chasing, Sri Lanka too suffered early blows as in-form opener Pathum Nissanka fell cheaply. Kamil Mishara also got out early during the power play. But Kusal Mendis held the innings from one end and scored the match-winning knock of 74 runs, and had piled pressure on Afghanistan.
Kusal Perera assisted him brilliantly as they built a partnership of 45 runs for the wickets, and then Afghanistan spinners wreaked havoc, dismantling their batting attack. But Mendis's prowess became too much for them. Kamindu Mendis too made a significant contribution and took the team across the line with six wickets remaining.
