Agni Dev Chopra, who is the son of Vidhu Vinod Chopra, found himself in the middle of a massive controversy after his name was displayed on the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 player registration list. The young cricketer has now come up with a clarification, saying he has not signed up for the league and that the reports doing the rounds are incorrect.

There was a huge backlash on social media as soon as Agni Dev’s name appeared on the list of players registered for the 11th edition of the PSL. The list, available on the Pakistan Cricket Board’s official website, mentioned him as a US citizen with a base price of PKR 6,00,000. This led to reports claiming he had registered for the upcoming season.

Amid all the speculations, Agni was quick to respond with an Instagram story, which was later reposted by his mother, film critic Anupama Chopra. In the statement, he strongly denied the claims and asked people not to believe false information. He wrote, “Fake and misleading reports are being circulated in my name regarding a tournament. I would like to clarify that I have not enrolled for the PSL. I remain fully focused on my cricket journey in the USA and my long-term career goals. I request everyone not to fall prey to misinformation."

Anupama Chopra went on to share the screenshot of her son’s post without adding any comment. Interestingly, there hasn't been any reaction so far from his father, filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra. It is to be noted that Agni Dev is a US citizen and is eligible to play in leagues around the world. He was seen playing in the Indian domestic cricket until 2025 and featured in tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

He bagged huge limelight during the 2023–24 Ranji Trophy Plate season, where he finished as the top run-scorer. In his debut first-class season, he scored 939 runs at an average of 78.25, earning the Madhavrao Scindia Award, which was officially recognised by the BCCI. Agni also became the first player in first-class cricket to score centuries in his first four matches.

Agni Dev kept his impressive run going and followed this up with a strong 2024–25 season, scoring over 1,800 runs in 11 first-class matches at an average of 94.94. A left-handed batter who also bowls right-arm off-spin, he has continued to impress with his performances.
