IND vs ENG: India's star batter Shubman Gill was named as India's new Test skipper for the five-match Test series against England, which will also mark the beginning of a new era, where Gill will be seen leading a young team from the front, which will also have some senior players in England. The 25-year-old Gill would become the country's fifth youngest Test captain besides Mansoor Ali Khan Patadudi [21], Sachin Tendulkar [23], Kapil Dev [24], and Ravi Shastri [25].

The upcoming five-match Test series against England will be held next month in Leeds and besides that, Gill will also be playing in the India A series against England.

The selectors' decision to make Gill the Test captain was quite expected after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from the longest format this month.

“Congratulations to Shubman Gill for being appointed as the Indian Test captain. But surely, Team India is going to miss Mohammed Shami’s services in those conditions," Irfan Pathan had written on his official X account.

While Shami getting snubbed didn't go down well with a lot of fans, who were left confused as to why he was dropped from the Test squad.

“-We were told Shami was an auto-choice bowler if fit. What happened now?" a fan said.

“Strange team selection overall. But India go to England with nothing to lose. It’s a team in transition, so we can only wish it the very best & yes, be patient when it comes to returns on investment. ," Sanjay Manjrekar had written on his official X account.

Youngster B Sai Sudharsan and Arshdeep Singh also received their maiden Test call-up.
