Ashes 2025: Australia's star spinner Nathan Lyon has quickly dismissed claims of ex-skipper Steve Waugh about the retirement of their bowling quartet. Waugh has often said that bowlers like Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, and Nathan Lyon are inching close towards announcing their retirement from the longest format, owing to age, but Lyon has slammed all the critics and has only praised those who appreciate them for their efforts.

Nathan Lyon shuts off retirement talks

Nathan Lyon is gearing up for Ashes 2025, where he revealed that Test cricket has changed a lot as far as physical conditioning and recovery are concerned. And due to this, he hasn't really thought about retirement.

“The game is a lot more professional than it was even 10 years ago when I started. The science behind it all, the recovery, the way that players and athletes look after themselves, and the work they do outside hours to make sure they’re putting hours in to get their bodies right, have all improved. I feel like age is just a number. I feel like I’m yet to play my best cricket,” Lyon told Fox Sports.

Lyon also revealed that these retirement claims haven't affected the quartet, who are one of the most successful foursomes in this format.

“As soon as you start talking about retirement, it’s going to come around a lot quicker. I haven’t thought about retirement or spoken about retirement, and I know ‘Starcy’ hasn’t done that, and I know that Josh and Pat haven’t either. We love playing our role and we love winning Test matches, so we’ll continue to do that for a while,” he added.
