Ashes 2025: Pat Cummins has revealed that he gave himself half a chance of returning in the second Ashes Test, which will be held next month at the Gabba. He was ruled out of the series opener owing to a bone stress injury. But he was seen attending a high-intensity training session ahead of the series, but failed to recover well on time.
In his absence, the host included three fast bowlers- Scott Boland, Mitchell Starc, and Brendan Doggett, as Josh Hazlewood was ruled out owing to an injury. Before the second Test, Cummins is quite hopeful about his recovery and that he is feeling much better than he was a week ago.
"It's on track and pulling up pretty well. [I'm] half a chance for the next game. I'm pretty hopeful, and it's probably better than it was a few weeks ago,” he was quoted as saying on a Fox Sports broadcast.
Since Cummins is on the recovery, there is no update on Josh Hazlewood. He, too, was ruled out of the series opener owing to a hamstring strain. He also had to pull out from the New South Wales Sheffield Shield game against Victoria as he felt discomfort, and scans showed that it was an injury.
AUSTRALIA HAMMER ENGLAND
Since the hosts were without the services of Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, they still won the match and are leading 1-0. While having 205, the host completed it in 28.2 overs as the match was over in two days.
Travis Head put up one of the best performances as he scored 183 runs off 83 balls, and that also includes a 69-ball ton, which is the quickest in this format. He had 16 fours and sixes and helped the team win the game.
The visitors were skittled out for 172 runs and then bundled to 123 runs. But the Australian bowlers like Scott Boland and Mitchell Starc replied brilliantly and had set the tone for the win along with Head’s heroics.
