In a Super 4 match of the Asia Cup, India clinched a 41-run victory over a spirited Sri Lanka, securing their spot in the tournament's final. Rohit Sharma played a pivotal role for India, notching up 53 runs off 48 balls, but Indian batsmen faced a formidable challenge from Sri Lankan spinners Dunith Wellalage, who claimed 5 wickets for 40 runs, and Charith Asalanka, who took 4 wickets for 18 runs. India posted a sub-par total of 213 runs.

In response, India's bowlers, led by Kuldeep Yadav with his 4 wickets for 43 runs, dismantled the Sri Lankan batting lineup, bowling them out for 172. India, having earned four points, advanced to the final, where they would face either Sri Lanka or Pakistan, who were set to clash in a crucial match on Thursday.

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj struck early blows for India, reducing Sri Lanka to 25 for 3. However, an enterprising partnership of 63 runs between Dunith Wellalage (42 not out) and Dhananjaya de Silva (41) momentarily revived Sri Lankan hopes. But a moment of indiscretion from De Silva ended their stand. With a valiant but lone effort from Wellalage, Sri Lanka's task proved too challenging.

During India's innings, Wellalage and Asalanka wreaked havoc with the ball, taking nine wickets between them, exploiting the turn and grip on the Premadasa pitch. India had a blazing start, with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill adding 80 runs for the opening wicket. Rohit's innings also saw him reach a significant milestone, becoming the sixth Indian batsman to score 10,000 runs in ODIs.

However, Wellalage's introduction changed the game's complexion as he picked up crucial wickets, including that of Rohit Sharma. Asalanka, too, contributed significantly by dismantling India's middle and late order. Despite a modest total just past the 200-run mark, India's bowlers defended it successfully, securing their place in the Asia Cup final.
