Asia Cup 2025: Mohammed Siraj has weighed his worth in gold after an incredible England tour where he emerged as the highest wicket-taker in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy among players like Ben Stokes, Brydon Carse, and Jasprit Bumrah. However, the spirited fast bowler is unlikely to be part of the Asia Cup squad, as per a report. The report in Cricbuzz suggested that Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and either Prasidh Krishna or Harshit Rana can make the 17-member squad for the upcoming T20 tournament.
Notably, Hardik Pandya is likely to be another option alongside three pacers.
Siraj's numbers in T20 Cricket go against him in comparison to Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana, especially during the Indian Premier League.

The report made another revelation, which distinguished the chances of Test skipper Shubman Gill making the side. There were earlier reports that Gill is likely to get a call-up and might be the designated vice-captain for the side. The report in Cricbuzz states that until head coach Gautam Gambhir makes a case for Gill, selectors might not look at Gill as an option.
The factor that goes against Gill's runs came as an opener in T20s. With Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma putting up match-winning performances for India, Gill is unlikely to get to play as an opener.
The report also marked Axar Patel's name as Suryakumar Yadav's deputy in the Asia Cup, despite speculations that Gill might replace him in the future. All-rounder Hardik Pandya is retaining his position in the side, with Shivam Dube and Washington Sundar vying for a spot.

The selectors are looking at Yashasvi Jaiswal as the back-up opener in the current T20I setup. Jitesh Sharma is way ahead of KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant as the second wicketkeeper in the team.
Axar Patel will have spinners like Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi in the squad.
India will open their campaign UAE (United Arab Emirates) on September 10 before facing bitter rivals Pakistan on September 14.
