AUS vs WI: Australia's Usman Khawaja, who suffered a head injury in the first Test against West Indies, is on track to be available for the second Test in Brisbane. The blow to his helmet, delivered by Shamar Joseph, occurred just before the conclusion of the game in Adelaide.

Retiring hurt with one run needed for victory, Khawaja underwent initial concussion assessments in the dressing room and has shown no symptoms over the weekend. The left-handed batter is set to resume training on Tuesday during Australia's main session in preparation for the Gabba Test.

"He completed normal concussion assessments today [Sunday]. Khawaja will continue to be monitored for any delayed symptoms. He will be reviewed again tomorrow prior to returning to training," Espncricinfo quoted a CA spokesperson as saying.

The positive development suggests that Australia is likely to maintain the same lineup for the second Test, aiming to secure a 2-0 series victory. Meanwhile, Matt Renshaw, the spare batter in the squad, may participate in Brisbane Heat's Challenger final against Adelaide Strikers on Monday.

If Heat advances, Renshaw could also feature in the final against Sydney Sixers on Wednesday, the day before the Test.

Australia's captain, Pat Cummins, had also commented on Khawaja's condition post match, saying, "He seems okay but will be monitored."

Earlier, Khawaja was sent to the hospital for scans after the head knock but was finally given a broken jaw. Despite spitting blood and experiencing discomfort in his upper jaw and cheekbone, Khawaja did not look too bothered. He humorously mentioned on social media that he retired hurt to give Marnus Labuschagne a chance to bat.

While Khawaja passed the initial concussion test and was declared free of jaw fractures, medical staff will continue monitoring him for any delayed symptoms.

In the first Test, Labuschagne played a crucial role, scoring the winning run shortly after Khawaja's retirement hurt, securing Australia's 10-wicket victory over West Indies. Australia will next face West Indies on January 25 at Gabba, Brisbane.
