Usman Khawaja Injury Update, Australia vs West Indies 1st Test: Australian opener Usman Khawaja remains doubtful for the second Test against West Indies after sustaining a blow to his jaw in the first Test on Friday, January 19.

Australia defeated West Indies by 10 wickets to go 1-0 up in the two-match series as the hosts wrapped up the series opener well inside three days.

While Australia gear up for another Test series whitewash over a visiting side, Khawaja's availability for the second match emerges as a concern for the home side.

The incident took place on the third day a few moments before the end of the match when Khawaja was hit on the helmet by a short delivery from West Indies' debutant pacer Shamar Joseph.

The 37-year-old retired hurt after the injury, spitting blood and was in enough discomfort to force him to leave the field. He was assessed by the doctor on the field before retiring hurt.

Cricket Australia confirmed he had passed an initial concussion test in the dressing room. He was sent for a scan to check there was no structural damage to his jaw, and it was later confirmed that his scans came back clear.

While the Aussies prepare for the second Test, Khawaja will need to pass another concussion test on Saturday to be cleared to play in Brisbane.

The second Test between Australia and West Indies is scheduled to be played at the Gabba in Brisbane and will commence on January 25.

Australia captain Pat Cummins had spoken to Khawaja briefly after the win. "He seems okay," he said. "It's a little bit of a sore jaw. So yeah, [we'll] monitor it but he seems okay."

With Khawaja set to be monitored in the coming days, Renshaw is the next in line to play in Brisbane if he isn't fit. That will affect Renshaw's availability to play in the other BBL finals if the Brisbane Heat require him on either Monday or Wednesday.

Talking about the match, the hosts comfortably chased down the 26-run target in just 6.4 overs after bowling West Indies out for just 120 runs on the third day.

Travis Head was the star for Australia with the bat as he smashed a brilliant hundred in the first innings and his contribution of 119 runs was enough to put his team ahead in the match.

On the other hand, Josh Hazlewood made it a heavy struggle for the visiting batters as he took nine wickets in the match including a five-wicket haul in the second innings.
