5th Test: Head, Steve Smith's Centuries Put Australia In Driving Seat As Hosts Take 134-Run Lead On Day 3

Australia Men's National Cricket Team vs England National Cricket Team Match Scorecard: A commanding performance from Travis Head and Steve Smith, both notching centuries, helped Australia take a stranglehold in the Sydney Test with a 134-run lead against England in the fifth and final Ashes Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney on Tuesday.

At the time of Day 3 Stumps, Australia's score read 518/7 with Beau Webster (42) and Steven Smith (129) standing unbeaten at the crease.

On Day 3 of 5th Test, Smith scripted more Test cricket history at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Tuesday, surpassing Jack Hobbs to become the second-highest run scorer in Ashes history with a marvellous ton.

The 36-year-old struck his 37th Test century as he constructed on Travis Head’s blistering foundation knock of 163 as Australia quickly went past England’s total to gain a lead.

Australia started the day at 166/2. Brydon Carse (3-108) finally dismissed Michael Neser for 24, and this brought Smith to the crease. Head continued to assert his dominance over the English bowlers, notching his 12th hundred before being dismissed.

Smith stitched up a 54 for the fourth wicket with Head before the opener was removed.

Playing his last Test before retirement, Usman Khawaja, who received an ecstatic reception from the Sydney Cricket Ground crowd as he came out to bat, only managed to score 17 runs before falling to a full toss.

All-rounder Cameron Green then came out to bat, putting 71 for the seventh wicket with Smith before departing for 37 courtesy of an ill-judged shot.

Heading in for tea, Australia were just seven runs behind England's tally of 384.

After slamming a 37th test hundred, the 36-year-old Smith received a rousing ovation from the 46,161-strong crowd, clad in pink for the annual Jane McGrath charity day.

He had already surpassed Jack Hobbs on the list of most run scorers in Ashes tests, his total of 3,683 against England now trailing only the great Donald Bradman (5,028).
