AFG vs AUS ICC Champions Trophy 2025: There are three teams still in contention from Group B to qualify for the semifinal as the ongoing mega-event nears its business end. South Africa and Australia are lying in the top two positions with three points under their kitty, as they had also won one match and the other ended with no result. As Australia lock horns with Afghanistan in their last group stage match on Friday, winning the match can only help them qualify for the semis. The fight won't just revolve around batters and bowlers putting their best foot forward but the weather conditions in Lahore would also play a huge role.

The Steve Smith-led side began their campaign on a high by defeating arch-rivals England in a nail-biting thriller and then their second group stage match against South Africa was abandoned due to incessant rain. Afghanistan's campaign has been topsy-turvy but they would be entering this match riding high on confidence as they scripted history by defeating England earlier this week. They suffered a heavy loss to South Africa during their tournament opener.

Lahore Weather Report Today:

As per Accuweather.com, there is a 71% chance of rain playing a spoilsport. The upcoming clash between Afghanistan and Australia will most likely be a stop-start contest and the chances of having a full 50-over game look highly unlikely.

Which Team Goes Through If Afghanistan vs Australia Champions Trophy Match Gets Abandoned?

If the Champions Trophy match between Afghanistan and Australia is abandoned then both the teams would get one point each. In such a scenario, the Steve Smith-led side will directly qualify for the semis as they will have four points under their kitty. At the same time, Afghanistan would only stay alive mathematically in the semifinal race.

The Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side has an NRR of -0.990. This would be the same when they get three points. South Africa too has three points under their kitty but has a brilliant NRR of +2.140. If the upcoming clash between Afghanistan and Australia is washed out, then South Africa would be all but through to the semis.

Afghanistan will have a mathematical chance to stay in contention and that is only possible with England defeating South Africa by a huge margin during their last group stage match.
