Ashes 2025: Australia star fast bowler Mitchell Starc is in sublime form with the ball in the ongoing Ashes Test series. On day 3 of the second Test in Gabba, he also made a significant contribution with the bat. Till tea, he had scored 46 runs off 95 balls. In his innings, he also achieved the milestone of scoring 1000 runs in the WTC.

He needed 43 runs in this match to achieve the milestone of scoring 1000 runs in the WTC, and he did so in the 98th over.

He became the ninth Australian cricketer to have scored 1000 runs in WTC, and also the second Australian, besides Pat Cummins, to achieve the milestone of scoring both 1000 runs and 100 wickets in WTC.

R Ashwin, who announced his retirement from all formats last year, had become the first cricketer to have scored 1000 runs and taken 100 wickets in the WTC. He had scored 1142 runs and had taken 195 wickets after playing in 41 WTC matches. Jadeja had become the only cricketer to score more than 2000 runs and also take 100 wickets in the WTC, whereas Cummins and Starc are the only ones to have scored 1000 runs and taken 200 wickets in the WTC.

If Starc, who had taken six wickets in the first innings of the ongoing Test, does take 9 wickets in the second innings, then he will surpass Cummins in the bowlers' list of taking most wickets in WTC.

Australia's Nathan Lyon has the record of taking the most wickets in the WTC. He had taken 219 wickets after playing in 54 matches till now.
