IND vs OMA Asia Cup 2025: T Dilip, who is the Indian team's fielding coach, has provided an update on Axar Patel's injury after their win against Oman in the ongoing tournament. Patel had sustained the injury as he tried to take the catch, and that's when his head was hit on the ground, and he had to leave the field immediately. He was standing at mid-off and ran to take the catch as the leading edge from Hammad Mirza's bat at the back of a lengthy delivery in Shivam Dube.
Patel did reach the ball but couldn't complete the catch as the ball slipped from his hands. He fell to the ground awkwardly on his head and was seen reeling in excruciating pain. When India had won the match by 21 runs, T Dilip provided an update on Patel's injury and said that he looked fine to him after the match.
“Just now I've seen Axar, he looks fine now at this point. That's what I can say about it,” T Dilip told reporters during the post-match press conference.
This was the first time that Axar Patel came into bat in this tournament and had scored a gritty knock of 26 runs off 13 balls, in which he had hit three fours and one six. He did bowl just one over and conceded 4 runs. He did take the wicket of Oman skipper Jatinder Singh by lbw, but the on-field umpire changed this decision with the help of DRS.
T Dilip was also enquired about the short gap for their next clash against arch-rivals Pakistan, which will be held on Sunday. He dismissed all the excitement around the match and revealed that the side considers each match as any other game and that they are looking forward to facing the arch-rivals again.
“Regarding the Pakistan game, everybody is geared up. We treat every game as the same, and we know the schedule, how it is panned out. So every game is just another game and we're ready for it,” he concluded.
After their win against Oman, the Suryakumar Yadav-led side finished as the table toppers of Group A since they had won all three of their matches against teams like UAE, Pakistan, and Oman. The tournament has now entered the Super 4 stage, where India will face teams like Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
