Babar Azam Breaks Rohit Sharma's Record, Most T20I Runs: Babar Azam scripted history as he went past Rohit Sharma's record to become the all-time top run-getter in T20I cricket. He achieved the feat during his stay at the crease during the second T20I match between Pakistan and South Africa at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Friday.
Babar headed into the match just nine runs short of the milestone, which he achieved during Pakistan's run chase. He remained unbeaten on 11 runs in 18 balls, surpassing Rohit Sharma's record of 4231 runs in 159 matches. Babar now has 4234 runs to his name in 130 T20I career matches at an average of 39.57 on the back of 36 fifties and three centuries.
India's legendary batter Virat Kohli stands third in the elite list with 4188 runs under his belt in 125 matches at an average of 48.69, hitting 38 fifties and a century. Notably, Babar was dismissed for 0 in the first T20I match. Pakistan went on to win the second match by 9 wickets to make it 1-1 in the three-match series.'

Having made his debut way back in 2016, Babar has been a remarkable player for Pakistan in the T20Is. He held the no.1 position as well in the ICC rankings for a while and captained the side for a long period. However, things haven't been going well for the senior batter when it comes to performances.

Having already lost his captaincy across formats, Babar was also dropped from the T20I side and missed the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2025 as well in the UAE. However, the ongoing home series against the Proteas marked his comeback to the national team.
In his absence, Pakistan played 26 T20Is. They won a home series against Bangladesh and then experienced a 2-1 series loss in Bangladesh. The Men in Green also secured a 2-1 victory against the West Indies and won the tri-series in the United Arab Emirates before suffering three defeats to India in the Asia Cup.
Talking about Rohit and Virat, the veteran Indian batters retired from the format after helping the team lift the title in the T20 World Cup 2024. Babar, on the other hand, will be in action on Saturday as Pakistan and South Africa gear up for the third and final T20I match in Lahore.
