BAN vs NEP, 2024 T20 World Cup: Bangladesh has sealed the last spot for the Super 8 stage of the ongoing tournament by defeating Nepal by 21 runs on Monday. After losing a close match to South Africa, Nepal fought tooth and nail to beat Bangladesh and create one of the biggest upsets in the history of the tournament but failed to do so. At the same time, Bangladesh finished in the second position in the points table with six points in their kitty and an NRR of -0.333 after winning three of four matches.
The Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side also scripted history by defending the lowest total in the mega-event. In their last group stage match against Nepal, they had a shaky start as Sompal Kami dismissed Tanzid Hasan in the first ball itself. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto’s dismal show with the bat continued as Dipendra Singh Airee took his wicket. Litton Das tried to stabilize the innings but was dismissed after scoring just 10 runs.
Towhid Hridoy, who was Bangladesh’s star batter in this tournament, was also dismissed early. Batters like Shakib al Hasan, Jaker Ali Anik, and Mahmudullah Riyad scored 17, 12, and 13 runs respectively but failed to continue with the momentum. Rishad Hossain scored a gritty knock of 13 runs and Taskin Ahmed’s unbeaten knock of 12 runs helped the team post a meagre target of 106 runs in 19.3 overs.

Tanzim Hazan rattles Nepal
Bangladesh had a flying start on the back of brilliant bowling by Tanzim Hasan Sakib. He did concede a four but bowled 21 dot balls and registered figures of 4-2-7-4. Tanzim dismissed batters like Kushal Bhurtel, Anil Sah, Rohit Paudel, and Sundeep Jora.
Asif Sheikh, who played a gritty knock in the match against the Aiden Markram-led side, scored 17 runs off 14 balls, in which he had smashed four fours but then Mustafizur Rahman took his wicket. Kushal Malla and Dipendra Singh then helped the team bounce back and stitched the partnership of 53 runs. But Mustafizur broke this partnership as he got Malla out, who scored 27 runs off 40 balls.
Bangladesh will now face a stiff challenge as they will lock horns with teams like India, Australia, and Afghanistan in the Super 8 stage.
