The BCCI have announced a whopping cash prize of Rs 7.50 crore for the Indian team after their title win in the ICC U19 World Cup 2026 under Ayush Mhatre's captaincy. India defeated England in the final by 100 runs, producing an outstanding performance in the high-scoring contest to lift their sixth U19 World Cup title.
India remained unbeaten throughout the competition. "The whole country and BCCI are proud of our Under-19 side on their Under-19 World Cup 2026 victory. The way our team defeated England in the finals, and how they remained undefeated in the tournament, we are all proud. The BCCI will reward the team with Rs 7.50 crore cash prize," BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said.

After opting to bat first, India posted a massive total of 411/9 in their 50 overs on the back of an exceptional performance from the young batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The 14-year-old set the final on fire as he smashed a magnificent century. He ended up breaking multiple records during his stay at the crease, having played a fiery knock of 175 runs in just 80 balls with the help of 15 fours and as many sixes. India bowled England out for 311 in 40.2 overs, as Caleb Falconer's fighting century went in vain. For India, RS Ambrish picked up three wickets.

India's dominant performance also set a new record for sixes in a Youth ODI final, hitting 31 sixes. The victory adds to India's Under-19 World Cup wins in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018, and 2022, while England are yet to win their second title since 1998.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had congratulated the Under-19 team for its stupendous showing at the World Cup, "India's cricketing talent shines! Proud of our U-19 team for bringing home the World Cup. The team has played very well through the tournament, showcasing exceptional skill. This win will inspire several young sportspersons, too. Best wishes to the players for their upcoming endeavours."
Ayush Mhatre has joined an elite list of players like Virat Kohli and Prithvi Shaw to have led the Indian team to the U19 WC title win. "I can't express my feelings, but it's a memorable moment for us in our cricketing journey. The boys have played very well and what we have set the goals, and they executed very well. And they played as a natural game. So, yeah, I'm really happy," India's U19 captain Ayush Mhatre said at the post-match presentation.
