The BCCI has handed a two-year ban to Bengal leg-spinner Rohit Yadav for allegedly providing incorrect details about his age. The action comes just weeks after Rohit was selected in India’s Under-19 squad for the upcoming series against Australia.

Rohit, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, was part of India’s Under-19 tour of Sri Lanka in July. He picked up six wickets during the tour and played a role in India’s victory in the final Test.

“He has been banned for two years,” a BCCI source said as quoted by PTI.

Rohit was also included in India’s Under-19 squad for the home series against Australia. The teams are scheduled to play one-day and multi-day matches in Rajkot and Ahmedabad later this month.

Multiple Birth Certificates Raise Questions

The issue came to light when Rohit’s documents were checked during the Sri Lanka tour.

According to the records examined, Rohit has three birth certificates carrying different years of birth, 2007, 2009 and 2010. The discrepancies have made him ineligible to continue playing age-group cricket.

His Aadhaar records also showed different dates of birth over the years.

When Rohit was registered with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), his year of birth was listed as 2007. However, his Aadhaar details were later updated to show 2006 in 2017 and again in 2020. The year was subsequently changed to 2009 in 2021.

The CAB had already taken note of the discrepancies and kept Rohit out of its junior teams. The association later informed the BCCI about the matter.

The BCCI has now barred him from domestic cricket for two years and has communicated its decision to all affiliated state associations.

CAB Takes Action Against 62 Cricketers

Rohit is not the only player facing action from the CAB.

The Bengal cricket body has declared 62 players ineligible for registration or transfer for any tournament during the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons.

The players have been flagged over issues involving their documents and age records.

The list also features former India Under-19 World Cup winner Ravi Kumar and left-arm spin all-rounder Vishal Bhatti. Ravi has represented Bengal at the senior level, while Bhatti has played three first-class matches and two List A games.

Ravi was an important member of India’s 2022 Under-19 World Cup-winning side. His records have reportedly shown a 45-month discrepancy in his age in the CAB system.

CAB Steps Up Document Verification

The latest action is part of the CAB’s wider effort to check the age and registration details of its players.

The association has been examining player documents more closely after finding discrepancies in several cases. Details of the players who have been declared ineligible have also been uploaded on the CAB’s website.

The move underlines the increasing scrutiny around age-group cricket, where accurate documentation is crucial for players to remain eligible for competitions.
