India's ODI Squad Against New Zealand: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) likely to announce India's eagerly anticipated ODI series squad against New Zealand on January 3, with the three-match series set to begin on January 11.
The announcement has yet to be made regarding the national squad for the 50-over encounters, scheduled for January 11 in Vadodara, January 14 in Rajkot, and January 18 in Indore.
According to reports by The Times of India, senior selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar is expected to unveil the team on January 3, bringing clarity to the Indian setup ahead of the high-stakes series.
“The national selection committee, headed by (former India pacer) Ajit Agarkar, will hold an online meeting on Jan 3 to pick the squad," a BCCI source was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
India's previous ODI campaign under KL Rahul's interim leadership concluded with a 2-1 series triumph over South Africa in early December 2025. Now, the original captain Shubman Gill is set to take the reins for the upcoming New Zealand series. Gill, who was selected as India's ODI captain on October 4, 2025, missed the South Africa series due to a neck injury sustained during the first Test in Kolkata.
The BCCI selectors are likely to give all-rounder Hardik Pandya and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah rest for the ODI series against New Zealand. Both players played in India's T20I series against South Africa and are expected to be part of the T20I squad against New Zealand and the T20 World Cup 2026 squad.
Star batter Shreyas Iyer remains sidelined with an injury, ruling him out of the New Zealand ODIs. The Mumbai batter had been targeting a return to action, but his rehabilitation has been extended, and he'll continue his recovery at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for another week.
