Former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel has not applied for the vacant West Zone position on the BCCI senior men’s selection committee, despite being widely tipped to replace Ajit Agarkar. His decision could open the door for other candidates, with Ramesh Powar and Sameer Dighe among the names being discussed.

The deadline for applications ended on Wednesday, October 14. With Parthiv staying out of the race, the BCCI will have to consider other options to fill the vacancy.

“Don’t know if the BCCI would extend the deadline, but Parthiv had not applied till 5 pm on October 14. The situation could change if the deadline is extended or he changes his mind,” as quoted by PTI.

In the meantime, Pragyan Ojha is expected to continue as chairman of the senior men’s selection committee for the remainder of his tenure. Ojha represents the South Zone, and his higher number of Test appearances among the current selectors strengthens his position.

Will Ramesh Powar Replace Ajit Agarkar As West Zone Selector?

Ramesh Powar could now be in contention for the vacant West Zone position on the senior men’s selection committee. He was earlier considered a strong candidate to take charge of the junior men’s selection committee.

Former India wicketkeeper Sameer Dighe is another name being discussed for the role. Both Powar and Dighe had applied when the BCCI last invited applications for selection committee positions.

However, the number of prominent eligible candidates from the West Zone appears limited. The situation could change if the BCCI extends the deadline and gives Parthiv another opportunity to apply.

Parthiv Patel Likely To Continue With Gujarat Titans

For now, Parthiv appears set to continue with his existing commitments rather than join the senior men’s selection committee. He is associated with the Gujarat Titans coaching staff and also has broadcasting assignments.

Unless he changes his decision or the BCCI extends the application deadline, the race for the West Zone position is likely to move ahead without him.
