England's white-ball coach Matthew Mott has made a sensational claim that the skipper Jos Buttler will be discussing seriously the possible return of the star all-rounder Ben Stokes.

The white-ball captain is open to having a chat about Stokes reconsidering and withdrawing his retirement from the ODI cricket ahead of the ODI World Cup in India later this year.

Stokes had announced his retirement from ODI cricket in July 2022 due to the overloading of a work schedule and in order to focus more on the longest format of the game.

Nevertheless, Mott has expressed optimism that Stokes might change his decision before the marquee event that begins after a few months from now.

"Jos will probably lead the way on that communication, but Ben's pretty straight with all of us. We will see if he's keen. There has not been a clear direction on what he's going to do yet, but we are still hopeful. I've always said his bowling would be a bonus, but just look at what he brings with the bat, even in the field," Motts was quoted as saying.

Motts mentioned Stokes' memorable contributions to the team, particularly with the bat and in the field, and praised his strong presence throughout the Ashes series.

"Watching him throughout the whole Ashes series, he had such a great presence. He's done it for years when it comes to performing in one-day cricket and so he's an invaluable commodity," Mott added.

Stokes, however, doesn't seem to be up for the withdrawal from his retirement from ODI cricket, effectively ruling out his participation in the upcoming World Cup.

He had also expressed his desire for a short break from the game to address a persistent knee problem that kept him away from bowling.

Stokes has been one of the most effective all-rounders in world cricket at the moment as he still remains the player with the fastest century by an England batter.

He played a memorable game-changing knock of an unbeaten 84 runs against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup final.
