Both teams started the match with an attacking approach but the hosts were the first who drew first blood.

Jugraj Singh managed to find the net in the ninth minute from a penalty corner, giving his team an early lead.

However, Malaysia were quick to retaliate and by the end of the second quarter, they successfully took a 3-1 lead, on the back of goals from Abu Kamal Azrai, Razie Rahim, and Muhamad Aminudin.

Their efforts paid off in the last minute of the third quarter when they launched a lethal counter-attack as a follow-up to a failed penalty corner conversion by Malaysia. Harmanpreet Singh converted a penalty stroke to make it 2-3, and Gurjant Singh scored in the same minute to level the proceedings.

The fourth and final quarter turned out to be even more thriller, allowing India to hold their nerves as Akashdeep Singh scored a late winner in the 56th minute to give his side a famous 4-3 victory in the end.

The whole nation has joined the celebration with praises and wishes coming from every field and from all parts of the country. Tendulkar, who is never left behind on these special occasions said that it was another shining moment for Indian hockey.
