It's his maiden hundred in Test cricket as he continues to look solid in the middle and has left no stone unturned in frustrating the Indian bowlers on the second day so far. South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first against India in the second Test in Guwahati. 

"I want to be someone who gives that freedom [to players] and I want players to learn and make the right decision for the team eventually. That's the real goal, and obviously, whatever my knowledge is, I am going to help them on the field [with it]," he said, ahead of the match.

"I think that the toss doesn't become too big a factor compared to what probably Kolkata was like. But in saying that, you know what, you want to win the toss, you know the advantage of batting on Day 1, Day 2, so I think that still becomes an advantage, but not such a deciding factor."

Gill has been ruled out of the second Test due to the neck injury he picked up during the Kolkata Test. He was admitted to Woodlands Hospital. However, he travelled with the team to Guwahati before the announcement of his unavailability came. This is the first match Gill will miss as the Indian captain.

Rishabh Pant will become India's 38th Test captain. He will be leading the Indian team in the absence of injured Shubman Gill. The ongoing series marked Pant's comeback after a long injury break.
