Former India captain and legendary spinner Bishan Singh Bedi passed away at the age of 77 years on Monday, October 23.
Bedi was regarded as one of India's leading spin bowlers as he played a crucial role in promoting spin bowling in a country that was focused on producing great batters instead.
He represented India in 67 Tests between 1967 and 1979 and picked 266 wickets. He also took seven wickets in 10 One-Day Internationals.

He played a key role in India’s first ODI win. His effective bowling figures of 12-8-6-1 restricted East Africa to 120 in a 1975 World Cup fixture.

Bedi, along with Erapalli Prasanna, BS Chandrasekhar, and S. Venkataraghavan was monumental in bringing a revolution in Indian bowling, inspiring more and more youngsters to opt for the role.
He was born in India on September 25, 1946, in Amritsar, and went on to become a highly skilled left-arm orthodox spinner, grabbing the attention of everyone through his eye-catching bowling style.
Providing the ball with a promising amount of flight and spin were the key to his bowling as he used to deceive the batters to get the better of them.
His leadership was crucial for the Indian team in the historic 1971 series win over England. He captained the side in the absence of injured regular skipper Ajit Wadekkar and provided a memorable moment to write his name in the history books.
Apart from his brilliance in international cricket, he played an inspiring role in helping the young and emerging domestic cricketers when he was associated with the Delhi team.
He served as a mentor to numerous spin bowlers, nurturing them to take up the sport in the country.

After his retirement from the game, he continued to be a respected voice in Indian cricket and raised his opinion on several game-related issues.
